James lectures on a variety of subjects. For over fifteen years he has been a regular speaker on cruise ships, where he specialises in art, architecture, history and natural heritage. Recent cruises have seen James in the West Indies, South America and the Mediterranean, and in May 2018 he lectured on Viking Sea from Bergen to Stockholm via Copenhagen, Gdansk, Tallinn and St Petersburg, his talks focusing on wildlife and conservation. In November 2018 he lectured for Noble Caledonia on a Serenissima cruise from Seville to the Canary Islands via Morocco and Western Sahara, his talks focusing on Western artists in North Africa and on the natural heritage of the region.
